“Chocolate heaven since 1911,” Thorntons started with a single shop in Sheffield. It grew to become a dominant force on the British high street and was the place to go when you wanted a luxury chocolate box for a special occassion.

In 2015, Italian confectioner Ferrero acquired the brand. In 2021, the Thorntons moved online, closing its high street shops for good.

The brand still sells the same range of products it became known for, including Special Toffee, Thorntons Continental, and, perhaps most famous of all, its personalised chocolate models and plaques.

Swiss Chocolates From Betty's°

Fritz Bützer, who changed his name to Frederick Belmont when he settled in Harrogate, learned to become a confectioner and chocolatier while travelling through Switzerland and France. In 1919, he opened Betty's Tea Room in the Yorkshire town which has since become an institution. The company still makes and sells a wide range of chocolates using the finest Swiss Grand Cru.
